This award is presented to an environmental technology or service company that has demonstrated the drive, talent and innovative spirit to have successfully carved out a place in the global environmental marketplace.

Advanced Glazings Ltd.

Advanced Glazings Ltd. is located in Sydney, Nova Scotia and manufactures Solera® translucent glazing units. Solera is made of glass and converts troublesome direct beam sunlight into controlled diffuse natural light, and along proper translucent daylighting design and computer simulation tools, can be used to simply and cost effectively provide daylight in most day-to-day architectural projects. The component substitutions required to provide translucent daylighting are a fraction of the cost, and more compatible with other architectural requirements, than the orientation changes, add-ons, etc. required by traditional daylighting.

THE CAPITAL MARKETS AWARD FOR SUSTAINABLE INVESTMENT & BANKING   | top

The Capital Markets Award for Sustainable Investment & Banking is a new addition to the GLOBE Awards for Environmental Excellence. The Capital Markets Award represents an explicit recognition that financial markets are increasingly integrating environment factors into investment and banking decisions, and are placing more capital into sustainable technologies and ventures. Canadian fund managers, bank, brokers, venture capital companies and investment advisors are developing new financial instruments, analytical tools and targeted funds that merit consideration for the Capital Markets Award for Sustainable Investment & Banking.

This award is presented to a local government or private sector company or consortium, which has demonstrated outstanding leadership in transforming a brownfield site into a thriving, revitalized community or business area.

Winner: Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation with the Canadian War Museum

Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation

The Canadian War Museum is Canada's national museum of military history. Located on LeBreton Flats in downtown Ottawa, the new Museum fully integrates its architectural theme, "regeneration", into the building and landscape architecture. The site remediation, the use of recycled materials, the energy-efficiency features, and the building's green roof all contribute to the health of the environment by reducing waste, energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. The result is a building that embraces the harsh reality of war, yet offers hope that, like the regenerating landscape, Canadians will choose a future that heals rather than destroys.

The Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation manages the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum.
