THE AWARD FOR BEST CONSUMER PRODUCT | top

are they? This award will be presented to a Canadian company or
group of companies that has/have developed a product or line of
products that are demonstrably environmentally friendly; from
cradle to cradle. It could be a sustainable alternative to a
conventional product or a brand new entry into the consumer

THE AWARD FOR BEST GREEN RETAILING PRACTICES|
top
Many stakeholders in retail industries are adopting 'green'
business practices, processes and products. This is shifting
production and demand in the entire value chain and has the
potential to affect change on a massive scale. Although the
performance of buildings and infrastructure can be measured through
LEED ratings and other recognized certifications, a number of other
end-to-end 'green' practices can go unnoticed by the consumers -
these practices can include minimizing carbon emissions through
supply-chain management, implementing procurement policies that
reward sustainable suppliers, reducing packaging and material
consumption, etc. This award will be presented to a company with a
retail presence in Canada that has excelled in the execution of
end-to-end sustainable practices and has measured improvements of
the environmental performance of their retail operations.

The Beer Store (TBS) is Ontario's primary beer
distribution and sales channel. TBS sells 350 beer brands in 440
retail locations and distributes beer to over 17,000 licensees and
over 800 other retail partners. TBS' world renowned packaging
take-back system diverts half a million tonnes of packaging each
year. Of that, over 300 thousand tonnes of glass bottles are
refilled (reuse), and all other bottles, cans, and secondary
packaging that are recycled. TBS' environmental stewardship is
guided by the principle of continuous improvement. Each year TBS
strives to recover more packaging, create fewer emissions and
conserve energy in its operations.

- RONA
- The Beer Store
- Walmart Canada
