EXCELLENCE | top

award will be presented to a Canadian corporation with a proven
record of environmental stewardship that has materially contributed

This special award will be presented to a shipper, carrier or
other transportation service provider which has demonstrated
outstanding commitment to sustainable practices.

Novex Couriers is a B.C. owned and operated
company servicing the Lower Mainland's same-day delivery needs. We
have laid out a strategic plan to become a truly sustainable
organization creating a triple bottom line that includes a social,
economic and environmental focus. The nature of our business
contributes to the growing environmental problem and in accepting
our responsibility have made a commitment to do the right thing and
consistently focus on creating a sustainable company. Novex is the
first courier of our kind to take our commitment to the earth, to
our people and to our communities to this level.

THE AWARD FOR TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION AND
APPLICATION | top
Increasingly today, new and innovative technologies are being
developed and applied to solve pressing environmental problems.
This award will be presented to a company or group of companies
that have demonstrated outstanding technical ingenuity in the
development and/or application of an innovative technology or
process with a significant environmental application and/or
benefit.

Vancouver-based Nexterra Energy Corp. has
emerged as a leading developer and supplier of advanced
gasification systems that convert waste biomass into clean-burning
"syngas" to displace fossil fuels in the production of heat, steam
and/or power. Nexterra's technology has demonstrated to customers
that they can reduce costs and become more energy self-efficient,
while significantly lowering greenhouse gas emissions and harmful
air contaminants from some of the largest point source industries
and institutions in our communities. Nexterra is finding new market
applications through powerful alliances with industry leaders,
including Johnson Controls Inc., Domtar, Tolko Industries, Vancity
Capital, Terasen Energy Services and Corix.

THE INDUSTRY AWARD FOR EXPORT PERFORMANCE | top
The global demand for environmental and clean energy
technologies and services continues to expand and Canadian
companies have demonstrated that they can succeed in this very
competitive sector. This award will be presented to an
environmental or clean energy, technology or service company that
has demonstrated drive, talent and innovative spirit in
successfully carving out a place in the global environmental
marketplace.

BioteQ Environmental Technologies Inc. has
developed and commercialized unique process technologies that
address the global mining industry's most difficult environmental
liabilities - metal and sulphate contaminated water produced by
acid mine drainage and mineral processing.
BioteQ builds, owns and operates water treatment plants that
produce saleable metal products that can pay for water treatment
costs, and clean water that can be discharged to the environment.
BioteQ works with the world's leading mining companies and utility
operators to reduce their environmental liabilities while
generating revenue from waste.

THE AWARD FOR SUSTAINABLE INVESTMENT &
BANKING | top
Financial markets are increasingly integrating environment
factors into investment and banking decisions, and are placing more
capital into sustainable technologies and ventures. This award will
be presented to a North American or global fund manager;
commercial, investment and private bank; financial/investment
broker; asset management company; venture capital firm; or
investment advisor who has developed new portfolios, debt or
investment structures & instruments, analytical tools and/or
targeted funds for Canadian environmental technology,
infrastructure, retail or industrial, or clean energy markets.

Ethical Funds has been at the forefront of the
socially responsible investing (SRI) industry for over 20 years,

THE AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN URBAN
SUSTAINABILITY | top
As the hub of industry and innovation, cities have become the
economic engines of society. Liveable, vibrant and sustainable
cities are rising to the top of the competitive ladder through
their ability to attract talent and investment. A key 'building
block' for such world class cities is the planning and practice of
urban sustainability in City form, building design and economic
systems. This award will be presented to a local government,
private sector company or consortium which has developed and
applied outstanding urban sustainability principles.

A showpiece of sustainable design and technology,
Dockside Green is a multi-million dollar project
that includes residential, live/work, retail, office, light
industrial uses and extensive public amenities. It will include 26
buildings (all aiming for LEED Platinum certification) totaling 1.3
million square feet, and is being built over the next six to eight
years.
Superior building practices and extensive community planning are
transforming the 15 acre waterfront site from a contaminated
industrial wasteland into healthy, lively community that 2,200
residents will call home.
Dockside Green is a partnership between Vancity and Windmill
West.
