Corporation

Teknion is a leading international designer,
manufacturer and marketer of office systems and office furniture
products. Teknion has been built on design and innovation, product

Our environmental program began with a sincere desire to expand
our thinking, as we have focused on training and building a
knowledge community to pursue sustainable and efficient methods of
design, manufacturing and business development.
Today sustainable development is a significant part of our
culture embraced by leadership, where we have implemented strategic
programs such as ISO14001, Ecologo, LEED and Greeguard and through
the efforts of people and teams across our organization who use
their proactive environmental responsibility to create a not only a
"greener" company but a better one.

THE AWARD FOR TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION AND
APPLICATION | top
Increasingly today, new and innovative technologies are being
developed and applied to solve pressing environmental problems.
This award is presented to an organization or group of
organizations that have demonstrated outstanding technical
ingenuity in the development and/or application of an innovative
technology or process with a significant environmental application
and/or benefit.
Winner: Earthcycle
Packaging Ltd.

Vancouver-based Earthcycle Packaging was
founded in 2003 by the company's Founder and President, Shannon
Boase, and introduced to the commercial market in November
2005.
Earthcycle Packaging is a sustainable line of compostable
packaging solutions, made of palm fiber, a renewable resource that
was formerly considered an agricultural waste product of the
Malaysian palm oil industry. With its signature line suitable for
packaging everything from fresh produce to meats to consumer
products, Earthcycle Packaging has built a name that is synonymous
with quality, durability and sustainability.
Currently available at retailers such as Wal-Mart (who has a
goal of zero waste by 2010), Wild Oats, Whole Foods, and Loblaws,
Earthcycle Packaging has, in a short period of time, secured a
strong and increasingly visible presence in the North American
marketplace as part of the solution to eliminate plastics and their
harmful environmental impacts.
Earthcycle's future looks bright. The company continues to make
its mark, elevating the awareness of its compostable packaging
line, while educating consumers on Earthcycle as the eco-friendly
packaging option.

THE CAPITAL MARKETS AWARD FOR SUSTAINABLE INVESTMENT
& BANKING | top
Financial markets are increasingly integrating environment
factors into investment and banking decisions, and are placing more
capital into sustainable technologies and ventures. Canadian fund
managers, bank, brokers, venture capital companies and investment
advisors are developing new financial instruments, analytical tools
and targeted funds that merit consideration for the Capital Markets
Award for Sustainable Investment & Banking.

Mercer Investment Consulting's Responsible
Investment business is dedicated to developing intellectual capital
about the integration of environmental, social and corporate
governance (ESG) considerations within investment decision making.
Working with clients in Canada and abroad, Mercer consultants help
to develop and implement responsible investment policies, select
investment managers and monitor performance within an ESG
framework. Mercer Investment Consulting worked as consultants to
the United Nations on the development of the Principles for
Responsible Investment, which were launched in April 2006.
Mercer Investment Consulting is a leading global provider of
investment consulting services offering customized guidance at

investment monitoring process. Mercer consultants have been meeting

THE AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN URBAN
SUSTAINABILITY | top
As the hub of industry and innovation, cities have become the
economic engines of society. Livable, vibrant and sustainable
cities are rising to the top of the competitive ladder through
their ability to attract talent and investment. A key 'building
block' for such world class cities is the planning and practice of
urban sustainability in City form, building design and economic
systems. This award will be presented to a local government,
private sector company or consortium which has developed and
applied outstanding urban sustainability principles.
Winner: Greater Vancouver
Transportation Authority (Vancouver Transit
Centre)

TransLink (or the Greater Vancouver
Transportation Authority) is the regional transportation authority
for the Greater Vancouver Regional District. TransLink plans,
finances and champions an integrated transportation system that
moves people and goods safely and efficiently, supporting the
regional growth strategy, air quality objectives and economic
development. TransLink and its operating companies and contractors
provide the following:
- Transportation planning and funding;
- Regional public transit services (Buses, SeaBus, SkyTrain, West
Coast Express and HandyDART) and the Albion Ferry;
- Funding of cycling facilities and the Major Road Network in
partnership with the municipalities;
- Maintenance and rehabilitation of TransLink-owned bridges;
- Transportation demand management; and
- The AirCare program.
