Judging Panel
The GLOBE Awards are judged by a panel of experts well known in
the Canadian business community. The panel assesses the finalists'
overall submissions, and selects the most outstanding entry to
receive the award in each category. Selections are made in
accordance with the rules and judging criteria stated on this
website.
In 2012, the judging panel for the
GLOBE Awards is comprised of:

Mike
Harcourt is a former Premier of British Columbia, Mayor of
Vancouver and City Councillor. He is a passionate believer in the
power of cities and communities to improve the human condition. As
such, as a speaker, author and advisor internationally on
sustainable cities, he was appointed to serve on numerous
committees, namely as Chair of the Prime Minister's Advisory
Committee for Cities and Communities, Co-chair the National
Advisory Committee on the UN-HABITAT World Urban Forum, and was a
member of the National Round Table on the Environment and Economy.
Mr. Harcourt's exemplary career as Lawyer, Community Activist, and
Politician has been honoured, with the Woodrow Wilson Award for
Public Service, the Canadian Urban Institute's Jane Jacobs Lifetime
Achievement Award and the UBC Alumni Achievement Award of
Distinction for contributions to British Columbia, Canada and the
global community. |

Denis Leclerc
is President and Chief Executive Officer of Écotech Québec, the
Québec Cleantech Cluster. Mr. Leclerc has more than 20 years of
experience in business management, mainly in the natural resources
industry. He has held a number of senior management positions,
including Vice President, Sustainability and Environment for a
global forest products company. Mr. Leclerc has been involved in
several strategic projects for companies having business units in
North America, Europe and Asia. He has an extensive expertise in
public affairs, including government, investor and media relations,
and also in sustainability and issue management. He holds MBA from
Université de Sherbrooke and a Bachelor of Arts degree from
Université Laval (major in public communications). |

Melanie
Nadeau is the Senior Manager, Sustainability at Emera. In
her role, she is responsible for providing leadership to advance
the commercialization of tidal power and ensuring that the
technology meets the unique challenges presented by the Bay of
Fundy. In addition, she is supporting Emera's Caribbean
affiliates to assess renewable energy options for the islands.
Prior to joining Emera, Ms. Nadeau was the Manager, Marine Energy
& Small Hydro Technologies at CanmetENERGY, Canada's leading
clean energy research centre. Over the last 10 years, Ms. Nadeau
has acquired significant experience advancing new technologies to
market in the areas of energy efficiency and renewable energy
technologies. She has led technology demonstration projects in
partnership with industry and provided strategic direction to
companies assisting in their product development. Ms. Nadeau
also served as a technical expert on various committees, advised
foreign governments on their respective research &
demonstration programs and produced several publications related to
renewable energy. She is an accredited professional engineer and
holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree with a specialization in
renewable energy and water resources from the University of
Waterloo, Canada.

Mark Rudolph is
President of justenvironment, his own public affairs consulting
firm that specializes in "just environment" issues. He has a
number of clients, both large and small, and both corporate and
environmental groups with whom he assists in developing solutions
to their public affairs challenges. justenvironment undertakes a
number of key public affairs services including: Government
Relations; ENGO Relations; Strategic Communications; Public
Relations; Strategic Planning; Policy Evaluation &
Analysis; and Management Consulting. Through justenvironment, for
almost a decade, Mr. Rudolph ran the Clean Air Renewable Energy
(CARE) Coalition. In addition, some current clients
include: Suncor Energy Inc., Vale Limited, Walker Industries,
Natural Energy Systems, Cenovus Energy, Rubicon
Minerals, Bechtel Corporation, The Toyota Group of Companies,
and the Nature Conservancy of Canada. In his political life, Mr.
Rudolph was Chief of Staff to the Ontario Minister of the
Environment, the Honourable James Bradley, from 1985 to 1989.
At the federal level, he was Chief of Staff in 1983-84 to the
Honourable Charles Caccia, Federal Minister of the Environment. Mr.
Rudolph holds an M.A. from the Institute of Environmental Studies
at the University of Toronto and a B.Sc. (Hons.) from the same
university.

Laura Selanders
was most recently the Senior Manager, Environmental Stewardship and
Sustainability for Home Depot Canada. Laura's responsibilities
included all product and packaging stewardship programs across
Canada. In addition, Laura managed environmental compliance and the
development of sustainability initiatives for Home Depot. For the
five years before joining Home Depot Canada in 2008, Laura worked
as a consultant in the midstream oil and gas industry in Calgary.
Rounding out Laura's 20 years of environmental expertise were roles
with such leading corporations as Canadian Pacific Railway and
Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. Laura holds a Bachelor of
Science degree from Queen's University, the Certificate in
Corporate Social Responsibility from the University of Toronto, and
is nearing completion of her MBA through Royal Roads
University. |
